Espoo is the second largest and the fastest growing city of Finland
Why Espoo Innovation Garden?
Espoo is a unique city
Espoo is the second largest and the fastest growing city of Finland. Part of the Helsinki metropolitan area.
Co-creating and collaboration with universities, companies and residents is the key element of our approach. We are the home city for e.g. Aalto University, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, and the headquarters of companies like Nokia, Fortum, Kone, Lumene, Neste Oil, Rovio and Valmet.
There are several facts that make Espoo a unique city. Espoo residents are the youngest of all the major Finnish cities. 20 % of inhabitants are under 15 years old. Over 51 % of residents over 24 years old hold a university degree. Within a period of 50 years the population has increased tenfold and will continue to grow rapidly - by 24 % within the coming 20 years.
Espoo is a link between Europe, Russia and Asia with fast flight connections from Helsinki Airport. Our business friendly environment offers an accessible location, functional infrastructure, modern logistics and communications networks for international companies and investors.
Espoo has a network-like urban structure. The five city centres of Espoo are Leppävaara, Tapiola, Matinkylä-Olari, Espoonlahti and Espoo Centre, each of which is the equivalent of a medium-sized Finnish city.
Tapiola, Keilaniemi and Otaniemi area is the home of the biggest innovation hub in the Northern Europe with thriving international companies, the hottest Startup Sauna on the planet, various cultural activities and sports clubs as well as a renowned community of scientists and researchers.
The city of Espoo actively invests in an already highly developed infrastructure, including the extension of the metro network from Helsinki to Espoo. In the last 10 years, on average 370,000 m2 of building space was completed annually.
Espoo is constructing a network city structure based on rail connections, intelligent transport system and intelligent services.
